She’s smart, she’s beautiful, she’s classy, she’s true and she’s getting married, too!”
Whenever I get the opportunity to be crafty, I take full advantage. Having slight withdrawals from planning my own wedding, I jumped at the opportunity to co-host a bridal shower for a dear friend of mine earlier this year. She epitomizes Kate Spade style so naturally we had a Kate Spade inspired bridal shower! Thankfully Pinterest provided a wealthy source of ideas but those pins don’t really do such a theme justice.
It was a small soirée but big on style and why not?! Even the smallest of gatherings should have every detail in place.
We ventured slightly north to celebrate our bride-to-be and rented the private room of Bimini Boatyard in Ft. Lauderdale. It was the perfect canvas for our bright pops of color. The food was delicious, the libations were plentiful and the service was phenomenal. I had the venue but I needed help from my trusted vendors to make my vision a reality.
Of course the linens and charger plates came from the one and only person I trusted to create the linens for my own wedding – Mayra from Event Rentals. Not only is she reasonably priced but she will help you create what you want if she doesn’t have it. She is absolutely amazing to work with, especially since she always keeps my budget in mind. Napkin rings can be a bit pricey at times, especially when the exact thing you’re looking for isn’t a popular item. Mayra brought out the DIY in me and suggested I create my own napkin rings out of high quality card stock. This allowed me to create a cohesive look and create the cutest bow-tie napkins.
After she left me completely breathless and surpassed all my expectations with my husband’s Stewie Griffin groom’s cake, Maria Eugenia from Mayu’s Cakes has become my go-to person for all things confections. Not only are her cakes absolutely to die for – think moist and flavorful in each bite – but she is the only cake vendor in South Florida that has 18 (yes, 18!) standard flavors and over half a dozen types of fillings. What really makes her stand out is that she can create literally anything into a cake, including this lovely wedding dress out of cupcakes!
Hiring a florist can be a pricey thing so for smaller events (if you have the time and patience), I suggest letting your green thumb thrive. You may surprise yourself, like I did! Miami has the luxury of having several wholesale flower companies that are open to the public. My favorite is Berkeley Florist Supply. They have such a large selection of flowers and supplies (check out those cute mint julep vases!) that you can spend hours in that place. Their staff is extremely helpful and will teach you little tricks to make your life easier when you’re a novice like me. I purchased all the vases and flowers to create these beautiful centerpieces and two days later, they were quite the show stopper. A beautiful arrange of fresh flowers can truly brighten a room and set the tone for any occasion. One thing is for certain, I truly appreciate the time, creativity and hard work that a florist puts into creating centerpieces. It is no easy task but completely worth it!
Needless to say, planning this bridal shower and creating the decor was extremely fun and a welcome distraction from the day-to-day. What event do I work on next …?
Special thanks to Lenore Parr for the amazing pictures and Andie Reilly and Danielle Kinkade for the favors!
