Blacks’ Annual Gala 2012
Marinate Miami had the opportunity to attend Miami’s much anticipated Blacks’ Annual Gala at the Fontainebleau Hotel. For over a decade, Miami’s finest gather to benefit The Consequences Foundation, a non-profit benefiting at-risk youth. If you think over the top glitz and glamor when you think of luxurious Miami nightlife, you’re thinking Blacks’ Annual Gala. Where else would you get to bid on a McLaren at a live auction and get headlining entertainment from Queen Latifah and Tony Bennett, among other artists like Deborah Cox?

As with any large event these days, the red carpet cocktail hour provided the best bites of the evening. The duck sliders were heavenly. A top shelf open bar ensured a good time for all attending. The presentation of the food during the reception was quite artistic. MM can only imagine how difficult it is to create a perfectly cooked meal for hundreds of people so it was a great thing that at least our eyes had something beautiful to admire. The flavors of the food were definitely showcased, especially the miso marinated grouper. However, the texture left much to be desired. It was quite rubbery. The soy glazed beef short rib was also very tasty but short ribs should never be well done. Luckily for us, dessert was amazing! The chocolate mousse cake was perfectly warm and the chocolate mousse just melted in your mouth.

Lastly, what Miami gala doesn’t include some local celebrities hashing it out for Bravo’s Real Housewives of Miami? It seems season two is in full production! Can’t wait to see what this little discussion was all about…
